JetBrains ETW Host Service is a lightweight Windows service from JetBrains s.r.o. that manages Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) sessions on behalf of JetBrains tools. It enables accurate, low-overhead collection of system and application events—such as CPU usage, I/O, thread scheduling, and .NET runtime activity—to power profiling and diagnostics features in products like JetBrains dotTrace, dotMemory, and IDEs with built-in performance tools.
The service coordinates starting and stopping ETW providers, aggregates event streams, and securely exposes them to JetBrains applications. Running as a local service allows these tools to access kernel and runtime events without requiring the IDE or profiler to run with elevated privileges. It typically starts on demand, uses minimal system resources, and does not transmit data outside your machine unless you explicitly choose to share or export diagnostics.
If you do not use JetBrains profiling or performance features on Windows, the service can be disabled or removed; however, related functionality may be limited or unavailable without it.
